Keynote and General Session Production at the Georgia World Congress Center

The Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) is a nonprofit, founded in 2007, that prepares Asian heritage scientists and engineers for their careers through collegiate and professional chapters. Its national convention brings students and professionals together for keynotes, professional development, and a STEM career fair.
SASE Connect 2023 was the professional conference within the 2023 SASE National Convention and STEM Career Fair, held October 11-14, 2023 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. General sessions ran in one of the convention center's auditoriums, with keynote speakers including author and civil rights attorney Qasim Rashid.

Client Objectives
The national convention is where SASE's student and professional members hear from keynote speakers and leaders on stage. The general sessions had to present each speaker clearly and give the auditorium a look that matched a national conference.

Filling a Convention Center Auditorium
The general sessions ran in a large auditorium with tiered fixed seating, tall side walls, and a wide stage. The production had to make speaker graphics readable from the back rows, carry speech clearly across the room, and give a plain stage and bare walls the look of SASE's national conference.

Strategic Production Approach
The approach used the whole room, not only the stage. Screens and scenery gave the stage its structure, front-edge moving lights handled the presenters, and patterned light on the walls and ceiling made the auditorium itself part of the look.
Screens, Scenery, and Light Across the Room
Two LED screens flanked the stage for speaker and session graphics, and a backdrop of cut-pattern panels lit in blue filled the center. Moving lights along the stage front lit the presenters, patterned light covered the side walls and ceiling, and line array hangs on either side of the stage carried the sound into the seats.

Venue & Logistics Considerations
The Georgia World Congress Center is the state-owned convention center in downtown Atlanta. SASE's general sessions used one of its auditoriums, a room with tiered fixed seating, a curved stage edge, tall brick side walls, and a high ceiling.
Live Event Execution
During the general sessions, the LED side screens carried each segment's graphics, from keynote title slides to session content, while presenters spoke from the podium in front of the lit backdrop. Patterned light stayed on the walls and ceiling throughout, and the line arrays covered the seated audience.
